In the new IFBC Sector Report – Swiss Banking you will find our findings from the analysis of a total of 86 Swiss retail and private banks on profitability, value creation and valuation.
For example, the revenue of 55 Swiss retail banks and 31 private banks was examined in more detail in order to analyze their profitability. Retail banks were not able to continue the positive development of the last few years in terms of revenue per employee in 2020. Private banks also had to accept a reduction in this key figure.

The cost/income ratio of the retail banks has increased over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic after an improvement in the previous year and, with a median of 65.1% as of 2020, is at a high level within the observed time period. The cost/income ratio of private banks increased for the third time in a row in 2020 and now stands at 84.2%. Compared to the retail banks, the median cost/income ratio of private banks is 19.1 percentage points higher on average.
